How to Design a T-shirt for an Event

Cruise Coastal x Cars On Main '24 is our collaboration with a local Memphis Organization Cars On Main. When designing this clothing line, our two companies had one mission in mind. Create a t-shirt with pieces from both brands history, while advertising an upcoming charity car show.

Cruise Coastal

On the front of this shirt, "Cars On Main x Cruise Coastal" can be found, underlined by the text "Memphis, TN". While it's obvious why we put both brands names on the front, we placed "Memphis, TN" because that's where the event will be taking place as well as the city both organizations originated from. These small details add up and allow your clothing to stand out from others. Now to explain why we designed the back the way we did. Since the Cars On Main event is a charity car show, we wanted our shirt to have some type of vehicle. After coming up with a few different options we decided to go with a Porsche 911. A vehicle universally known among car enthusiasts and even an attractive vehicle to the everyday person. Once we decided on which car to use, we wanted to tie-in our brand somehow and what better way then to put our message behind the car, "Dress to Drive".

We used Photoshop when creating the designs and found a few different websites which created mock-ups for us, to make sure our shirts came out the way we wanted. Then we used those mock-ups to create Instagram stories and posts to advertise for this event and clothing line, before we received our batches of shirts. Time is money, so you want to make the most of it.

Within minutes of the Instagram posts being made, we already had tons of interest in the Cruise Coastal shirts and orders coming through. Which leaves us where we are now, 2 weeks away from the event with continued support.

The biggest take-away is most of your time when starting a clothing brand or launching a new line, will be used in marketing. It will even be one of your highest costs if you are just starting out. However, collaborating with smaller/local companies can be helping in building long-lasting connections and brand loyalty. As well as be a cost effective way to get your name out.
